Misogyny in Korea - Featuring BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK, the hottest and biggest girl group in the world right now, has been undeniably breaking records and making history throughout their whole career, and such achievements should be proudly acknowledged by their country, South Korea. However, South Korea seems to be unready to let go of their misogyny to recognise and reward them for their global influence. The former Chief of South Korea’s National Security Office has voluntarily resigned after using his arbitrary power to withhold and delay BLACKPINK’s personal invitation from the US president, Joe Biden, to perform with Lady Gaga to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Korea-US relations at the state dinner. Many of those in the government have been reported to omit at least 6 related reports, thus notifying the president late.

Since the invitation made by the first lady in the US on January was delayed, there is an abrupt overlapping in the schedule as on the day of the supposed visit of President Yoon on 26 April, the group are scheduled to perform at the Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico City as part of their Born Pink World Tour. This was very crucial for the future relationship between the two nations because it can seriously undermine the trusting relationship between the two countries. Additionally, withholding influential reports about this in the media can strain the ruling government’s relations with the Korean media as well. Not only does this disrespect the coordinators of the event in America, but to BLACKPINK as well, as this golden opportunity to mark their success was stripped off carelessly.
